Hello and welcome!

By The Fell is an independent business that was launched by Sarah Hawkins in 2024. The business and workshop are located within the stunning Lake District National Park.

My story

As a child, my parents took me on holiday to the Lake District every year.  As an adult I took  my  husband and son there and, like me, they too fell in love with the area.  Each time we visited I hoped to find a keepsake piece of jewellery to remind me of the many happy days spent exploring and hiking, but sadly there was not much available.

In 2021 my husband was offered a position by his employer to work in the Lake District.  We knew an opportunity like this may never come around again, so we took the plunge and relocated from East Sussex.

I was finally surrounded by the stunning landscapes I adored so much.  That then led to the inspiration for By The Fell and my modern contemporary line of Lakeland jewellery and gifts.  It now means that you can have a keepsake to remind you of your happy times spent in The Lakes.  I wear my Catbells bracelet all the time!

However, apart from a short adult learning class in Oxford in silversmithing many years ago, I realised very quickly that I was about to embark on a huge learning curve!  I have spent hours and hours reading, asking advice and watching videos in order to reach where I am today.  I am proud to say that I am a self taught silversmith and  I love the process of taking a plain piece of sheet silver and turning it into something that someone loves.

I hope my designs mean that you can find a piece to cherish that reminds you of your happy place in The Lakes.

Wherever you may be going in The Lakes,

stay safe,

leave no trace,

and as always,

HAPPY HIKING!
